What is Motivation?

There are many and varying definitions of the word motivation, lets look at a few of them:

* The word 'motivation' comes from the Latin word meaning 'to move'

* External motivation: bonus, work conditioned (getting the office with the window)

* An inner (self-motivation) or outer drive to meet a need or goal

* A state of mind, desire, energy, or interest that translates into action

* Internal state or condition that activates behaviour and gives it direction

* Desire or want that energies and directs goal- oriented behaviour

* Self-motivation: employee knows an agency's goals and chooses to help meet them; working for personal job satisfaction. Example: law enforcement work gives you a sense of accomplishment and personal value
