Late Night Walking

Research shows that people in Merseyside are more afraid of becoming victims of crime than people living anywhere else in the country, when in actual terms, Merseyside is the second safest urban metropolitan area in the country (Source: British Crime Survey, July 2002). But we can improve this further by following the advice contained in this course.

Your Journey

  • Keep to well lit routes.

  • Keep away from potential danger spots: dark alleys; waste ground; shortcuts.

  • Arrange to make your journey home with friends; avoid walking home alone.

  • Walk confidently, with purpose, so you look as if you know where you are going.

You and Your Surroundings

  • Be aware of your surroundings; a personal stereo or too much alcohol can distract you.

  • Always carry change or a phone card.

  • Don't take glasses or bottle onto the streets.
