Skimming Question 1

Milkman David Sandedge has ended his doorstop deliveries on Merseyside, after 63 years. David was just seven years old when he took up his job. He left his first pint of milk at a front door on Handover Drive. He used to help his father deliver the milk.

In 1953, David and his father had 7,500 bottles a day on their milk float. On his last visit to Handover Drive he had just 300 bottles of milk for regular customers. From now on we will all have to buy milk from shops and supermarkets.

Question: Which answer best sums up the article?
a) David has been a milkman all his life, but soon he will retire. He doesn’t sell as much milk as he used to.
b) David is retiring now, because he sells too much milk and cannot keep up with his round.
c) David is retiring from being a milkman to go and work in a shop or supermarket.
d) David is passing his round onto his son
